Ravenna

Most people visit Ravenna to see the beautiful mosaics which date from the Byzantine period. Ravenna itself has a lovely town centre with old streets, delightful piazzas and some wonderful shops. With good local food and some excellent cafes this is a place to linger and watch the world go by. One of the best places to see medieval buildings is the Piazza del Popolo, and the nearby archaeological museum has a number of locally excavated artefacts. The town is within easy driving distance of the coastal resort of Rimini and other beautiful villages and makes a good base for a touring holiday.
