San Marino

The oldest republic in Europe, San Marino was founded in the fourth century by the monk St Marinus. This tiny country within a country has its own football team, stamps, mint and even a 1000 strong army. The capital San Marino is a major tourist attraction with attractive streets, shops and cafes. San Marino is built on the slopes of San Titano with stunning views across the country and is 12km across at its widest point. One of the main attractions of San Marino are the lack of customs formalities which attracts shoppers to the capital in search of a bargain.
