Jan Mayen

With no accommodation options and no economic activity, the volcanic island of Jan Mayen is not your typical holiday spot, but if scientific exploration or trips to experience the ecology of the island are important to you, then a company called EcoExpeditions will organise a trip from Iceland to the island. Acting on a Norwegian defence and communications base, Jan Mayen has no harbours and a short unpaved airstrip for smaller planes. The weather on the island is typical of the surrounding area, with cold conditions and storms occurring frequently.
