Aracena is located in Spain’s longest mountain range, the Sierra Morena and is a moderately sized town perched on a hillside. The Iglesia del Castillo is a gothic Mudejar church built by the Knights Templar and a feature of the town. Aracena’s main attraction is the Gruta de las Maravillas, the largest and most impressive cave in Spain. The cavern is beautiful, illuminated to enhance the rock formations and guided tours are available. In town the local cafes and restaurants are perfect for tasting the good regional cuisine and watching the world go by.
