Gotland

Gotland is the place to be seen during the summer if you are Swedish and like to party, many of the residents rent their apartments during the summer to the incoming party crowd who spend many a day in the bars and clubs on the island. If fact, the island was recently voted as having the best beach parties in Europe by leading British newspaper The Times. The island is also very popular for families and retirees as it is very easy to wander along beautiful stretches of coast and scenery. Accommodation is available all over the island in a variety of forms, there are numerous hotels and summer houses available for rent and the local cuisine on the island is also famous, the more adventurous may be tempted to try and sample Sheep’s Head or Lambskalle as it is locally known.

The town of Vispy is UNESCO listed and was one of the most important ports for all of the historic trading alliance as it allowed goods to be transported from Scandinavia and Russia to the rest of Europe and vice-versa, it is also a very beautiful and peaceful town to spend a few days in. One of the most interesting times to visit may be during Medieval Week in the beginning of August as the entire town floods with visitors and there are many different activities to take part in.
