St Moritz

Who can forget the magical photo shots of royalty and the rich and famous taken on the outstandingly picturesque slopes of St Moritz, Switzerland’s old and famous ski resort? From royalty to celebrity spotting you could be forgiven for forgetting about the snow.

St Moritz has hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice now so they have the right terrain and infrastructure to please the most ardent skiers and snowboarders. The season is from late November to early April.

Beginners will be happy to know that around 20% of the terrain it suitable for them and a significant proportion of the mountain is excellent for intermediate levels.

St Moritz is also famous for the polo matches and world-class horse races which are held on its frozen lake. For an additional adrenaline rush, try the kite-boarding over the frozen lake.

Accommodation is outrageously plush and expensive. However, there are also some good mid-priced options. For a more relaxed vibe, head to the more spa area which is located around the lake.

Shops in the town, which largely cater to the named celebrities, are ultra-plush.
Terrain: 20% beginner, 70% intermediate, 10% advanced. There are 88 named trails. The longest run is 6 miles or 10 kilometers.
