Lying on the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the Gaza Strip is a narrow piece of land 40km long that is situated between Israel and Egypt. Unfortunately, war and poverty have been key elements that shaped this area over the last half century, but there are also reasons why travellers would find a journey to this part of the world interesting. In terms of historical discovery it has much to offer, and people would be wise to visit the Great Mosque as well as the Turkish Baths at Hamam al-Sumara. Getting into Gaza is not easy, and all visitors were required to apply in advance for Israeli permission to enter the Strip.
