Ma’an

A two or three hour drive from Amman, Ma’an sees many visitors each year due to its unique tourist attraction, Petra. Fans of the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade will recognise the giant carvings in the rock that were part of an ancient city. Petra Archaeological Park has guided tours of the historic site. What people saw in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, during the last part of the movie when he reaches his destination, is known as The Treasury and the carved building that most associate with Petra. It is 40 metres high with columns and statues carved into the rock. Other places to view are the Great Temple, Ad Deir and Qasr Al Bint.
