Peace River is a place of unique history, several rivers and the birthplace of a famous NHL goaltender. Peace River started as a trading post before a fort was built there and then the railway arrived. Visitors to Peace River can view the Northern Alberta Railway Station and go inside it for the Tourist Information Centre. A part of Peace River’s history is Henry “Twelve Foot” Davis, a prospector who had a claim only that big, that is how he got his nickname, but he found gold. Waterways in the area include Peace River, Heart River, Smoky River and Pat’s Creek. A winner of three Stanley Cups in the NHL, Chris Osgood was born in Peace River.
