If you are after un-crowded slopes, head for Kicking Horse in Golden. It’s been said that if you aren’t looking, you could drive right past the turn off to Kicking Horse but, if you know where to look, it is easy to find. Kicking Horse is only 1 ½ hours west of Banff or 2 ½ hours west of Calgary along the Trans-Canada Highway.
Situated in the Purcell Mountains, the 2750 acre resort is 14 kilometres above Golden. It has the greatest vertical in the Rockies.
Kicking Horse caters to all level of skiers with good beginner and intermediate terrain and excellent off-piste, backcountry skiing.
Keen to try cross country, riding a snowmobile, telemarking or dog sled tours? They are all offered here. If you have energy to burn after a day on the slopes and want to have some more fun, try Disco Tubing or the challenging yourself at the climbing gym.
As it is situated close to six of the most spectacular national parks in Canada, there’s plenty to do before and after skiing. Jasper, Banff, Kootenay, Yoho, Glacier and Mount Revelsoke are the parks nearby.
There is a good range of ski-in, ski-out accommodation, ranging from affordable to luxurious. It’s RV friendly too.
