Visitors to Grand Bank can learn about the importance of the ocean to the community. The Southern Newfoundland Seamans Museum has many items on display, and the building itself commemorates the history of sailing as it is designed to look like the sails of a schooner. Painted on the side of the building is a large mural depicting Grand Bank and its famous lighthouse. The lighthouse can be viewed at the waterfront area of Grand Bank. Grand Bank is also very close to France, with the Saint-Pierre and Miquelon French Territorial Collectivity a short boat or plane trip away.
