Harbour Grace

A small town with a big history, Harbour Grace has seen pirates, aviation pioneers, great sportspeople and other important folks. Buccaneer Peter Easton built a fort in Harbour Grace in 1610. Where the fort was is now the location of the Conception Bay Museum, a former customs house built in 1870. The museum has displays showing the pirate, aviation and fishing heritage of the area. Amelia Earhart took off from Harbour Grace for a flight to Europe, there is a monument dedicated to that feat in Harbour Grace now. Champion hockey players and curlers have come from Harbour Grace.
