Quebec City

Quebec City is a unique destination for tourists, with the Chateau Frontenac, Saint Lawrence River and Montmorency Falls all must-see destinations. Parliament Building
Called the most important historical site in Québec City, The Parliament Building is an imposing structure comprising four wings that form a square of about 100 metres (330′) per side and it’s one of the few buildings in North America whose architecture in Second Empire style. The tour of the Parliament Building includes the National Assembly Chamber (where the members of provincial parliament sit) with its Renaissance architecture and the Legislative Council Chamber (standing committees have been held here since 1968).

The Citadel
The Citadel is the largest British fortress built in North America. Located within the fortifications of Old Quebec, it was built on Cape Diamond, the highest natural point of Quebec. And it dominates the city. Its defensive function and its location have earned him the nickname “Gibraltar of America.”
The Citadel, like much of old Quebec City provides an escape into English colonial days!

Choco-Musée Erico
A window overlooks the kitchen of the Choco-Musée-Erico, where chocolate lovers can ogle at its artisans while they make art out of chocolate. Far from a simple chocolate, this is a museum of chocolate, exhibiting tools and techniques dating back to Mayan times. Sherbet, handmade chocolate cookies, brownies make up only a small collection of the exquisite offerings created here. Chocolate lovers and sweet tooths will leave the museum enriched with the history of all things chocolate, alongside a handful of delicious treats.

Fortifications of Québec
Québec is the only remaining fortified city in North America. This feature has contributed to Québec being named as a World Heritage City by UNESCO. The Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site tells the tale of over three centuries of Québec’s military past. The fortifications surrounding Old Québec are close to 4.6 km in length. As you walk the walls, you’ll learn about the defence system of North America’s only remaining fortified city. Take a guided tour of Québec City’s fortifications and admire the views. Visit the Frontenac kiosk on Dufferin Terrace as well as Artillery Park and its unique building interiors near the Saint-Jean Gate.

Morrin Centre
Over 200 years ago, this intriguing building was Quebec City’s first prison. Now, as a cultural centre and library, the Morrin Centre is designed to embrace two cultures, English and French. For travellers, the Centre is a study in contradiction. Amidst the original interior of the prison sit thousands of books, a photographer’s dream and the tranquility of quiet contemplation.

Battlefield Park Plains of Abraham
The final battle between the French and the English over the colony of Canada took place on the Plains of Abraham in 1759. Now comparable to Hyde Park in London for its relative size, Battlefield Park houses a learning centre, where videos, books and tour guides all help to illustrate one of the largest Colonial land and sea battles fought in North America.

The Economuseum is a North American rarity. Within, 50 artisans work to build their wares. Not every artisan applies is allowed to get in – each must prove that what they produce is the result of an authentic technique or know how. Here, one goes to watch master tradesfolk, from blacksmiths to knitters to glass blowers display their expertise. Items are, of course, for sale, each one being the result of the best in their trade.

The École de cirque de Québec
Children and adults alike will enjoy the Circus School of Quebec, because that’s exactly what it is. Offering tours and enrolments for those who make reservations, this school is where flying trapeze artists and clowns start their career! For the traveller, a day workshop is all that’s required to get a peek into what it takes to wow a crowd. Laughter and thrills await this fun exhibition.

The Aquarium du Québec
Exotic fish, amphibians, polar bears – virtually anything that calls water a part of their natural habitat makes up the close to 10,000 species on display at the Aquarium of Quebec. This attraction offers a fascinating expedition into a world where humans cannot venture, where polar bears dip, walruses frolic and aquatic life from leagues beneath the sea show us a world often unseen.

Montmorency Falls Park
Topping off at 83m (249 feet), Montomorency Falls can be seen for miles. Gaining access from Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, will have travellers feeling the spray from this natural wonder. Offering gondola rides for aerial views, Montmorency Falls is open year round, as in the Winter the spray freezes at the foot of the falls, creating its own enthralling ice sculpture bringing onlookers, both local and from afar to witness this beautiful natural artwork.

Wendake
The culture and traditions of Canada’s First Nations people are preserved at Wendake, the ancestral home of the Wendat-Huron Aboriginal Indian Tribe. Artifacts and customs dating back to their 17th Century lifestyle are on display, as well as a sampling of the food fare that Quebec’s earliest people would have eaten. Wendake offers a view of a culture far apart from North America’s, whose traditions have been conserved for travellers eager to view a different way of life.
