Those travelling by car from Montreal to Quebec City will want to stop in Trois-Rivieres. It is where explorers Samuel de Champlain and later Captain Dupont-Grave visited and was also the site of a battle during the American Revolutionary War. Now it is a place to go camping, cruise along the rivers that provided the idea for the name of the city, attend many festivals and hear poetry. To the north of Trois-Rivieres is Parc national de la Mauricie with its huge forests and clean waterways. There are tours of the area conducted in seaplanes that take off from the water and fly over the land around Trois-Rivieres.
