Los Angeles

Los Angeles, home to the entertainment industry, is a sprawling sunny place to visit with a bounty of things to do and see. Start with the movie studios, and visit the sets of your favorite TV shows and movies. You can get tickets to sit in the audience while they tape many of the shows.

Stroll along the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in downtown Los Angeles to see the stars with the names of celebrities. Visit Disneyland, the exquisite Getty Museum just minutes outside of Los Angeles, or imagine yourself as the Pretty Woman while you stroll along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills!

Top 10 Los Angeles things to do

1. Los Angeles, for many, means Hollywood, glamour, film stars and movies, so take a stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the most famous pavement in the world which has over 2,500 hand and foot prints of stars of movies, television, live theatre, music and radio.

2. In similar vein and also in Hollywood, take a stroll along Sunset Boulevard, or The Strip as it is known to locals, to see in real life the street made famous in many a film, on TV and in song. Pop into the original Tower Records store where you may see some live music or spot a star signing autographs.

3. Continuing on in the movie theme, visit the 75 year old Mann Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. Take a guided tour of this whimsical cultural and historic landmark of Hollywood’s movie tradition and inspect the foot and hand prints of the famous in its forecourt.

4. The prestigious Kodak Theatre, where the Academy Awards ceremony is held, should also not be missed. Located in the very centre of Hollywood in the Hollywood and Highland Complex, this entertainment centre has great restaurants and high end shopping.

5. Follow in the footsteps of celebs along Rodeo Drive and window shop at the famous Tiffany’s, Van Cleef and Arpels, Hermes, Armani and Louis Vuitton stores on one of the world’s most expensive shopping streets.

6. The Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park is an iconic Los Angeles landmark. At 1,134 feet above sea level and just above the neighbourhood of Los Feliz, the panoramic views of the city from this vantage point are incomparable; and admission is free. Go up before sunset to see the city both in daylight and when the lights come on.

7. The ultramodern Museum of Tolerance is one of a kind. A multimedia centre with an educational bent, it is a museum which houses artefacts and interactive exhibits, but it also examines prejudice and racism and, in this vein, has a section dedication to the Holocaust. Take a self-guided video and audio tour which should last around two hours.

8. No trip to Los Angeles would be complete without a visit to Universal Studios, where one is able to watch real movies being filmed at the world’s largest studio, wander around the sets of great movies like Jurassic Park and see the special effects studio where you will be allowed to create your own shot. The theme park section has amazing rides and movie related attractions.

9. Take a tram to The J Paul Getty Center and Museum in Brentwood. An architectural masterpiece, it is an art museum and cultural centre. Don’t miss Van Gogh’s Irises amongst the Impressionists and European paintings, drawings and manuscripts. View the sculptures on the terraces and in the gardens and enjoy the breathtaking views of the city below. Admission is free.

10. For a quirky look at the strange and weird, go to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum on Hollywood Boulevard. Spend a while being amused by the strangest of objects, both natural and man made.
