Steamboat Springs, in the Gore Mountain Range, is just far enough away from Denver to avoid lots of day trippers. Many of its visitors choose to stay for many days. It’s the favoured destination for families and the ski school programs keep families coming back year after year.
During the height of the season, from late November to mid April, there can be as many as 400 ski and snowboard instructors on hand. Its reputation as a top ski training clinic is backed-up by the fact that it has trained many Olympians. However, it is also proud of its clinics for children. Ski programs for children begin for those three 3 years of age and over. They extend right through the levels to advanced lessons specifically for refining particular techniques.
After a day on the slopes often liberally covered with “champagne powder” you will leave wanting more and more. It has glades, powder skiing, bowls and chutes. There’s even evening sleigh riding dinners under the Colorado stars.
As the mountain is on the edge of the authentic western town it takes just 5 minutes (by free shuttle) from the town centre to reach the resort.
Terrain: 14% beginner, 42% intermediate, 44% advanced. There are 65 named trails. The longest run is Why Not which is 3 miles or 4.8 kilometers.
