Longboat Key

A barrier resort for the long winter weekends in the south of Florida which is home to numerous celebrity residents, Longboat Key is a beautiful islet and city that will easily beat your midwinter blues. The nearby waters are wonderful for leisurely kayaking, sailing and snorkelling, all of which can be arranged upon request on the island as most people tend to come here to relax and unwind from the daily stresses. There are shops and restaurants aplenty but don’t expect anything too lively, the majority of people who come here are retirees and families.

Home to Maria Sharapova and Jerry Springer to name but a few of the celebrity residents, the city can offer a great deal, especially if you are able to spend some money. There is a wonderful art centre that can be visited and showcases a great deal of local artworks by lecturers and students from the local college, the centre also has numerous galleries suiting whatever style of art you prefer. The island is a ‘dry’ city so no alcohol can be consumed whilst here, unless at a private function, but if you care for a gentle, get-away-from-it-all experience then you couldn’t pick many places better than Longboat Key.
