Sanibel

A quiet, stunning barrier island in Florida that is known as a haven for families and those seeking a peaceful holiday in beautifully intact wilderness. The surrounding waters are home to some verdant and well studied nature reserves, including the J.N. “Ding” Darling Reserve which houses some crocodiles and pelicans. It is easy to arrange a tour to see everything that these marshes have to offer.

Sanibel is famous for its stunning beaches which many wonderful species call home, including scallops and sand dollars. There are a remarkable number due to the island being a protective barrier for the mainland and its alignment with the gulf of Mexico. Sanibel is a city that encompasses almost the full island and so is where the accommodation and activities are primarily based, allowing easy access to everything that you would need. It is also possible to arrange for sightseeing boat rentals and scuba trips from here. The island has passed a special law only allowing non-franchised restaurants and hotels to open here in an effort to preserve the charm of this wonderful island. Many of those that are present have therefore retained a wonderfully friendly atmosphere that you won’t forget anytime soon.
