Molokai is a tiny Hawaiian island with a very interesting past and was previously a leper colony segregated from the rest of the islands. The island is now leprosy free and is a wonderfully peaceful, beautiful place to visit. Molokai is a place where you can spend carefree days on the beach overlooking Hawaii’s only barrier reef or you can play a round or two of golf.
One of the most fun ways to stay on the island is at one of the two campsites dotted around, where not only is it cheap and rustic, but you also get to live on a beach. There are also a number of villas and guesthouses that you can stay in, although it may be advised to book in advance due to the relatively limited spaces.
With a number of fun activities to do on the island such as mule riding, snorkelling and playing golf on two championship level courses, it is hard to get bored on such a beautiful island. No trip to Molokai would be complete without a visit to the Molokai Museum and Cultural Centre to experience some real island life.
