Ellis Island

Ellis Island is out in New York harbor, and to reach it you have to take a ferry from the southern tip of New York City.

Ellis Island was the gateway through which all the immigrants that came to America had to pass. Many Americans have strong feelings for Ellis Island, since most of their ancestors who arrived in America had to pass through Ellis Island. It is a fascinating place to visit. There are interactive displays, movies, and programs for children. It also has a lovely outdoor area so if you bring a picnic you can enjoy time out on the water, with an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of New York.

The ferry to Ellis Island leaves from Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.
