Sauvie Island

Located north of California in Oregon State, this wonderful island is famous for being larger than Manhattan and home to a stunning wildlife refuge. There are numerous activities to take part in here and all involve a real sense of ‘getting back to nature’ such as kayaking, fishing, trekking and hunting. For those seeking fun for all of the family, it is a very popular place to pick your own fruit and vegetables including pumpkins and corn. Accommodation comes in the form of hotels and B&B’s and you shouldn’t have a problem finding somewhere to stay, there are also a number of lodges if you fancy feeling a little closer to nature.

It is possible to hunt Bear, Elk, Cougar and other wonderful creatures in the region with a permit obtained from the local Wildlife Department. Kayaking around the island is a great experience due to the remarkable beauty of the surrounding area, it is also a very pleasant way to get some, mostly, gentle exercise. There are numerous beautiful beaches on Sauvie and although the weather may not get tropical the summer months still provide enough warmth to allow swimming.
