Block Island

The quintessential New England island, Block Island is nestled into the Atlantic Ocean just off Rhode Island. With its rugged cliffs and gracefully sweeping shoreline, Block Island enchants first time visitors so much that they keep coming back year after year.

Only an hour off the main land, it is a way for many to take a weekend break and really feel as if they have been away on vacation. Time slows down on Block Island. People walk or ride bikes. They go out on charter boats to go deep sea fishing. They sail, kayak, sunbathe on the beach, go shopping, and gaze out at the endless sea.

There is a famous artists’ colony on the island, so there is the added splash of culture that makes shopping there so rewarding. In fact, many visitors bring their own paints with them, or a camera, because the island and its views are so beautiful. If you go, make sure to see Mohegan Bluffs. Climb the 140 steps to the top to enjoy an exhilarating view of the crashing surf and beautiful scenery.
