Free riders and skiers will relish the conditions at Squaw Valley. However, if you enjoy skiing at a more sedate pace, you’ll find terrain to suit here.
You know that when a resort has hosted the Winter Olympic Games they will have the right terrain and infrastructure. Squaw Valley hosted them in 1960 and the Olympic flame still greets visitors to the resort.
On the top of the 4000 acre mountain resort there’s a gentle beginner area. They can enjoy the freedom of being high up and able to enjoy the panoramic views over Lake Tahoe along with the more advanced skiers. There is plenty of expert territory to keep the thrill seekers entertained.
Squaw Valley likes its skiers and boarders to enjoy freedom which is why, rather than marked trails, they favour a system whereby the lifts are graded depending upon the terrain they service. Wide open bowls allow you to get into the skiing groove. To cap it off there’s regular night skiing
The village is in the European style with many shops and restaurants to suit a wide array of tastes. There’s even mountain-top ice-skating and swimming with panoramic views over Lake Tahoe.
Terrain: 25% beginner, 45% intermediate, 30% expert. There are 100 named trails. The longest run is 3 miles or 5 kilometers.
