Fernando de Noronha

Home to what are reputedly the best beaches in Brazil, Fernando de Noronha, named after the famous Portuguese explorer, is home to a booming tourist trade and should feature high on the to-do list of anyone visiting this remarkable country. This island archipelago is everything that you could expect from a UNESCO-protected site as the waters are remarkable, the reefs are abundant with life and the area is filled with fascinating historical artefacts. The accommodation on the island is basic but it will provide you with the essentials to explore or relax on a beautiful beach as you wish. The star rating is determined by how many dolphins the hotel has.

Almost everything to do with the island is related to the water and most people come here for the outstanding diving and snorkelling which are easily accessible. If you don’t fancy delving into the underwater world you can lie on some of the most remarkable beaches in the region, if not the world. It is also possible to travel to the other island in the archipelago, although very few are inhabited, with a high possibility of spotting sea turtles and dolphins on the way.
