Escaping crowded slopes is easy at Chile’s premier Portillo Ski Resort as they have low weekly visitor numbers.
Every night the 35 marked trails are groomed, so there is no need to set an early morning alarm to get up to make first tracks. If you prefer unpacked off-piste skiing there’s plenty of terrain for you.
Portillo often gets snow in intense, but relatively short bursts, leaving lots of sunny days with clear blue skies in between times. The above the tree line conditions provide perfect epic days of skiing and snowboarding in the dry snow, the quality of which has been likened to that experienced in the Rocky Mountains.
For a completely different experience, try skiing to the lake and then being rowed back!
At Portillo you can immerse yourself in mountain life by staying on-mountain. Couple this with dramatic terrain and great conditions from mid June to late September for an amazing skiing and snowboarding destination.
The active ski school for youngsters and adults will help to introduce skiers and boarders to the snow, improve or refine techniques.
Terrain: 20% beginner, 30% intermediate, 20% advanced and 35% expert. The longest run is 1.5 miles or 2.4 kilometers.
