With over 1.2 million residents, Bucaramanga is the sixth largest city in Colombia. Colonized by the Spanish in the 1600’s, Bucaramanga’s growth into a large city did not take place until the last century. Located near the northern border of Columbia, near Venezuela, the city is a main player in the oil and natural gas industries. The city is spread throughout a plateau in the Andes Mountains. The Pinachi , or Chicamocha National park, is a well known, nearby park and many tourists will stay in Bucaramanga en route to this destination.
