Paramaribo

Located inland in eastern Suriname, Paramaribo is the capital and the largest city in the country. The city’s roots date back nearly 400 years and the well preserved historical structures in the city have made the historic area of Paramaribo a UNESCO national heritage site. Despite this fact, the tourism industry in Paramaribo remains just a small part of the local economy. With investments being made in infrastructure and a rich history, the city is well poised to gain favor as a tourist destination in the coming years.
