What’s the Algarve like?

I’ve seen many photos of the Algarve in Portugal and it looks lovely. Where’s a good place to stay there that would be peaceful but interesting?

Slightly off the main tourist routes in the eastern part of the Algarve area, which lies at the southern end of Portugal, you’ll find a truly lovely little town called Tavira. It still has cobbled back streets and life revolves around the town ‘square’. As a fishing port, you’ll find the very freshest sardines (nothing like the tiny things you find in cans) which are scrumptious when marinated and barbecued!

Filled with restaurants, cafés, markets and boutiques, I’d highly recommend a trip to Tavira if you’re ever in the Algarve.

There's plenty of local accommodation, some great trips around the coast, as well as into nearby hills and small towns.

    Faro is the closest airport.
