Countries to avoid does change all the time. The best place to check are the travel advisory notices that are given by the USA, UK and Australia Governments.

At the moment we would suggest that you avoid:
    Afghanistan
    Algeria
    Burundi
    Central African Republic
    Chad
    Colombia
    Congo
    Eritrea
    Haiti
    Iraq
    Libya
    Somalia

Countries that have high risk are Nigeria, Sudan and Ethiopia. Zimbabwe we had on our list but seems to be much better in recent months.

Please remember this list does change all the time.

If you are a woman and/or child, some of the stricter Muslim countries may also be a bit of a challenge and there are many points to remember. For instance, in Saudi Arabia, women are not permitted to drive, so hiring a car would be out of the question.

For many places, a lot will depend on your nationality (as per your passport), gender, whether accompanied by a man, etc., so do remember to look up your intended destination/s before you plan to go there. The age of consent also varies in some countries.

There are a number of articles on this site that might help you to understand some traditions, religions or customs for various destinations.

As long as you remember to 'do the right thing' by the authorities and locals of any country, you will usually enjoy your travels and find people to be friendly and helpful.

    Knowledge is power! Have fun!!
